About Me

If I don't know it, I will learn it!

I began my career in Utah as a developer on the front end, where my strongest skills reside, but I have grown to become a a Full Stack Developer. I now reside with my wife and two daughters in the state of Arizona. I've been doing professional web development since graduationg from college at UVU on May 1, 2014, where I received my B.S. degree in Digital Media with an emphasis in Internet Technologies.

While college gave me a great foundation, continuing education has been essential for my growth in this ever-expanding field! My personal motto is, If I don't know it, I will learn it! In my personal time, I enjoy viewing online tutorials, reading books, and listening to podcasts. My go-to sources for tutorials include Pluralsight and O'Reilly. The most recent books I've read include Clean Code by Robert C. Martin, Head First Design Patterns by Elisabeth Freeman and Kathy Sierra, and Refactoring by Kent Beck and Martin Fowler. When commuting, I frequently listen to Shop Talk Show, a podcast about building websites by Dave Rupert and Chris Coyier. While I intend to continue my pursuit of full stack web development, I am also in the process of learning and developing skills in software engineering.

One of my main ambitions in my career is to always consider the user experience. I'm a big believer in The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman and do my best to apply user experience design on the front end as well as the back end. In my experience, one of the most important responsibilities of a developer is to make everyone's lives easier, including site visitors, admins, and fellow developers. I aim to deliver a good user experience for site visitors and I strive to leave code clean and easy to understand and maintain.

Please review the rest of my resume and if you think we might be a good fit for each other, please reach out to me! I look forward to hearing from you!

Employment

C# Software Engineer

Apriva / 2020 – Present
  • Web development. I jumped into a long-existing web application which is a portal for merchants to make monetary transactions, manage inventory items, and view sales reports. I was responsible for adding features that allow merchants to manage customers as well as creating invoices that can be sent to customers.
  • API development. Alongside the web application, mobile applications on both iOS and Android rely on the web API for processing sales in addition to creating invoices to send to customers and listing inventory items for sales. I added new endpoints for customer management.
  • SQL Scripts including Stored Procedures. I've had the privilege to increase my development skills in SQL through the use of writing stored procedures as well as adding new functionality to existing stored procedures.

WordPress Developer / Software Engineer

Ipro Tech / 2015 – 2020
  • During my tenure at Ipro, my responsibilities included custom WordPress theme and plugin development, Sass, Gulp, Git, and full MVC applications in .NET Core including SQL integration, Web API design and development, and featured frameworks such as AngularJS, Vue.JS, Bootstrap CSS, and Vuetify. I also assisted with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, Marketo landing page and email templates, and UI customization for SkillJar and MadCap Flare projects.
  • I took the charge of organizing large CSS files into smaller Sass files that would become easier to maintain. Speaking of Sass, I introduced Sass to the engineering team and trained several team members with CSS specificity rules, both of which proved to be major wins.
  • One of Ipro's web applications required a particular layout envisioned by the product owners, which other developers weren't sure about. Thanks to Flexbox, I was able to offer solutions that would help realize the vision and meet the needs of the product owners.

Drupal Developer

Infusionsoft (now Keap) / 2015
  • While my time with Infusionsoft was relatively short due to downsizing and company-wide layoffs, I had the opportunity to learn CMS development using Drupal (v1). I also had the opportunity to begin working in Laravel.
  • During my time at Infusionsoft, I was able to greatly advance my skills with jQuery, which would later be to my benefit when developing in WordPress, which includes jQuery as part of its core.
  • Other responsibilities included turning Photoshop and Sketch mockups into web pages, assisting the DevOps team, and co-developing a microsite for Infusionsoft's partners.

Front End Web Developer

dōTERRA / 2014 – 2015
  • During my first web developer job out of college, my team of recent college grads and I were responsible for several of dōTERRA's corporate websites from start to finish where most of our projects were primarily built with AngularJS.
  • One strength that I was able to share with dōTERRA is my eye for graphic design. I worked closely with the Design department and was primarily responsible for transforming their Photoshop mockups into HTML and CSS.
